Please family, let me embroider in peace

title comes from a text post I found on tumblr that honestly, just me.

So in a move to curb my consumerism a little while also continuing to progress with artistic choices I'v started not buying sketchbooks as I feel like they are the gateway art material and once you're in the art shop in front of the 3 for £5 sign with a handful of wasted trees already and then suddenly you've bought thousands of paint boxes and pallet knifes that you don't need at all but seems like such a good deal.

So instead of spending money I should be saving I'm trying to work through the many pieces of paper I already own to work through my feelings. Double recycling and saving points for using a free lush catalouge and leftover yarn that I wouldn't have used anyway.

working my frustrations out through embroidery

Currently listening to Caramel Cult's amazing podcasts that ironically I listen to in the bath while using lush products.

Currently watching Tallulah on Netflix, like right now I'm half an hour in as I'm writing this. But also Stranger Things. Oh my god if you watch anything watch stranger things its so good for your soul.

Currently reading The Angel Esmeralda: Nine Stories by Don DeLillo, which is like the most beautiful notions of human connection and perfect for my short attention span when it comes to reading. Which brings me to The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath that I just finished reading a year after starting it, which blew my mind that I was never taught this book at school.

Currently eating anything vegan with hummus on it as of April I'm officially trying to become a proper vegan so good bye chocolate and pizza with cheese hello hummus.

Her eyes make diamonds look like loose change

I guess its time for a post, considering my last one was over four weeks ago, oops.

My lack of posting to this blog is due to 3 reasons
1. University has been so time consuming and constant that I get back to my flat and have so much work to catch up on after a full day its been exhausting.
2. I've been floating in between really ill and pretend ill/hungover for the last few weeks which means when I got out of that I was swamped with the amount of work I'd missed.
3. Any spare time has been taken up with watching project runway season 14 which I have become obsessed with.

rather than fill this post with fake apologies I'm going to play catch up with some of the photos I've taken since I started uni which hasn't been as much as I thought, I think I've entered a more zen phase of only needing one photo of one thing rather than eight minimum.

Crystals from when I had the time to spend all day lying around in bed - I have mixed feelings about crystals, while I'm not out there posting rubbish how crystals have healed them or brought them good luck, I do feel quite comforted having a little gem hanging round with me. I think I just like being near minerals.

The posted or an amazing film me and my friend Efa ventured out into the darkest depth of bristol to find the cinema for, then sat in a freezing cold theater while they tried to get the original film reels to work until they put on the digital version. While we were waiting for the film the second time around the poster may have fallen into Efa's bag. By accident of course.

A photo that I'm not really sure I should post, it may be a little problematic since were not really supposed to take photo during life drawing but as you cant see the model's face or any exposed areas it may be? I just love the composition so much and how she looks like a painting next to my drawing.

It's the little things that make us happy and finally staying in a room that has good lighting has brought me such joy.

More light streaming through the window and highlighting my messy room, it's not my fault I have no real system for washing.

I call this - What's a girl to do while her sheets are being washed? Why obviously take selfies on the mattress because the lighting is good.

Living on your own can be a little lonely at times, it's easy to spend a day in bed or in your room with no one to pull you out, that's why I'm glad I have Efa, who I may have only known her for two years real time it's actually been centuries in spirit years. One boring Saturday afternoon she texted me to meet her on the park at the top of the hill near where I live, signing off  'treasure hunt, Go!' So I raced up the hill to find her and up a tower where she was waiting and we looked over the city and tried to find Wales. Also we discovered we are both vaguely psychic and may be the charmed ones.

My wonderfully creepy tongue out heart iron on transfer I bought the other day from a fabric shop that I really want to stick on a t-shirt.

And this photo that was taken during my work break today, me posing with my brand new (and by that I mean new to me) charity shop trousers, the first proper pair of floaty baggy artsy fartsy trousers I own with a wonderful art deco fan print all over them. I feel like a classy circus performer.
I wanted to show of the trousers so much I threw my leg up onto the sink and tried to get in my hair and glasses as well. I can't see myself ever doing a normal outfit pose.

I've also been hard at work trying to win the sheet magazine Christmas wrapping paper competition, which ever 10 designs get the most votes is shown in sheet magazine and will be used as wrapping paper for urban outfitters. All you need to do it vote like mad for me!!
just press the little thumbs up underneath my design and I might have a chance of wining! You can vote on different devices as well so please help a champ like me out!

Teach me how to love you like I wrote And say it like I mean it when I don't

Well it's been a while.

The past week and a half has both flown by and dragged in the wrong ways, moving out was stressful and consisted of me shoving everything i thought I'd need into random bags and freaking out that I'd forgotten chargers or cables or shoes. Moving in to uni meant creating lots of mess and realizing that I've left most of my clothes, pillows and lamp at home and that I need all of those things. Living alone has meant wandering to the shops all the time to buy one thing then returning to my flat and realizing I had to buy something else as well. It also means hours of little to do and distracting myself with films and tv shows till late into the night. Freshers has been fairly tame but meant getting drunk way too easily and dancing on bars, meeting random people who will walk you home or invite you to their flat party for free beer and *gross alert* throwing up grapes in the sink the morning of induction week.

I will probably do something big and proper about moving out and being in uni but I've been super busy but not doing anything interesting or blog worthy to write about. I'm also trying really hard to get things sorted for Factory Girl, Pages are being finished and people have been sending me in really cool articles and illustrations and photographs and I'm so pumped up for it to be finalized.
There's still plenty of time to submit work - anything from photography, writing or artwork is greatly appreciated! Here are some of the images I've been working with.

We gotta get out of this place

I don't really have an excuse for not posting anything in the last few days, it's not that I've been wildly busy or doing anything interesting, I've just felt a complete lack of motivation recently, unable to do anything but laze in bed binge watching American Horror Story and posting old photos on instagram to further perpetuate the lie that my life is 'cool and noteworthy'. While I know I'm not the only one this creative block has got me down and I'm struggling a lot with journaling and thinking of blog posts, my university contacted me with the assignment I'm supposed to complete before starting in September and I have no real desire to start it, especially as I suspect my peers wont have put the same effort in as me if I do it properly. That sounds fairly mean but I'm slightly tired of working so hard on things that don't mean anything and I don't care about.

I want to print all of his best most nonsensical quotes that don't really line up together onto a shirt

hirxeth:“You’re young. You don’t know why you do things. But there’s always a reason.”Palo Alto (2013) dir. Gia Coppola

Still from Palo Alto which is a film I've been thinking a lot about recently

I went shopping by myself and felt like the fattest ugliest girl ever until I tried on this magical Stevie-Nicks-esque dress from H+M, even if it cost £70. There's always when it goes on sale.

Russian matchbox covers that I found on tumblr

Random screencaps I took while watching God Help the Girl which is the cutest little film, if you love Belle & Sebastian, Scotland, quirky love stories, cute clothes and great musical numbers that don't feel cheesy or forced at all you'll love it. Even if you don't love all or any of the above the pure charm of the film and its great cast will win you over. Named after the Belle & Sebastian album of the same name the film sort of plays out like an album, series of scenes cut together like songs following after each other.

All the places we wanted to go.

Gif from Sofia Coppola's Virgin Suicides which is a film I wholeheartedly love and have only just got round to reading the book which is fascinating.

A still from Party Monster that makes it look like a Renaissance painting, complete with the angel, devil, decapitated head thing in the corner. I want to do a whole post on Party Monster because really its an underrated film in its pure fashion complexity, Macaulay Culkin as a wonderfully fabulous 80s club kid, Chloe Sevigny as the ultimate ditzy club babe, Natasha Lyonne as a wonderfully naive goth nu-rave drug dealer, Seth Green as a campy cross dressing man about town and Rickie from My So-Called Life as the aptly named Angel as well as a whole host of fabulous characters and outlandish outfits.
