Depop and Groove Delight

As I am a struggling student, a struggling fashion student with a lot of clothes, I'm doing that classic desperate beg for you to buy my stuff cloaked with the guise of a #whatsinmyshop twee post.

I do actually have some fun stuff in my depop rosie_rebelled, old weird vintage clothes and patches I made years ago and are selling on the cheap.

There's some one of hand embroidered pieces there too that I really enjoy making as well as selling plus the cute bobbly dangly pompom earrings I've been making recently.

Some items, mostly the clothes I cant afford to do international postage as once again, I don't have much money ya get me?

I also wanted to share my little Groove Delight Playlist that I honestly listen to everyday and would totally be my dj playlist if I was down in Ibiza and to also proove that after two years I've finally figured out how to embed codes into posts

Cool Thrifty/Aesthetic Youtube Channels

↑↑↑ I couldnt think of a cool title for this lol ↑↑↑

I get kinda bummed with youtube sometimes, because I like fashion and clothes and style but hate the 'fashion + beauty community' on youtube. Well its not that I hate them or their videos it just brings me down when the majority of fashion related content is a pretty little white girl holding up a huge bag of shopping that she probably spend £100+ on with twinkly music and cutesy font. I don't like sponsored videos (although I understand the reasons behind making them) I don't like 'back to school hauls' and 'mid summer favourites ' and 'I decided to buy these basic t-shirts in five different colours for only £8 each!'

I don't like them because the message behind them feels like 'buy this clothing/make up/miscellaneous and you can be like me and have my cute happy expensive Instagram filtered life' and if you cant drop £50 on one outfit....then you can't be a beauty vlogger. I doubt any of them do it spitefully but most vloggers tend to have a lot of privilege (rich families to support them) or a certain marketability that propelled them into fame *cough*Zoella*cough*

But there's a shining light of fashion vloggers taking a different route going to thrift and charity shops, looking for second hand cheaper alternatives to give inspiration and relief from 'here buy this £15 stripey t-shirt and look just like me!' So lets all say no to blind consumerism and go hunting for cute second hand fashion!

Showing off her almost entirely thrifted wardrobe with cool editing and music tastes in thrifted look books and haul videos. I love her dancing and dedication to the 80's sitcom kid look and video tips on wearing what you want

Lauren departed youtube some time last year but like many others I still check her channel with crossed fingers looking for a new video but end up binge watching her old styling and thrift videos. She has a cute 60's/70's hippie nostalgic style and the bleached bangs of Cherie Currie and gives great cult film recommendations.

(allcaps for alltheaction)

I first saw Ashely's heelying video which is like the coolest concept to me, because really who doesn't want to skate round town in cool outfits pulling rad tricks? But then I stayed for the amazing outfit video's and off the scale editing skills.

While not strictly a 'thrift' channel Heather has the best DIY fashion videos, going beyond some of the 30 minute videos on how to diy a pair of cut offs - like do you really need that long to learn how to draw a puffy paint heart on the ass of you shorts? - also puffy paint?!? - As a fashion student most of the DIYs are based on looks she's seen on the catwalk or magazine editorials and are cool ways to jazz up that old thrifted t-shirt or jeans.

And last but by no means least

the glorious Rian Phin

She's so positive and cute and like if a piece of modern art came to life and started dancing! I love her diy videos and get real jelly of her thrift hauls because how does one girl find so much American Apparel stuff in a second hand store?

So I hope you like these links and get all jazzed up to go and find cute second hand clothes and not fall into the trap of consumerism!

All rise for the wonders of 90's denim

So on sunday me and two pals headed down to city hall for the vintage fair that's held every few months, it was a really cool affair, lots of cool vintage clothing a hell of a lot cheaper than in Urban or Topshop, they even had people doing vintage makeovers and live rockabilly singers. I've been suffering from low bank funds which has put a stop to wasting money so I'm back on a second hand kick, but I managed to find some sweet stuff, all of them very 90's denim related.

* Apologies for the rubbish quality of photos, I forgot I'd left my camera on manual mode which isn't great when it's on self timer *

Very 90's over sized Levi's jacket, I've wanted a large denim jacket for a while but wasn't hot about the £40 + price tags they came with, this was £25 and has genuine distressing on the collar from wear rather than just a bit of sand paper on the fabric. I've been wearing it to art school and its great for keeping both warm and cool in the un-predictable weather, I didn't wear it with the check shirt to school but I thought with the crop top, circle skirt and a denim jacket I wasn't quite 90's enough.

This super cute dungarees that aren't only adorable because they're dungarees, they have Winnie the Pooh on them. Winnie the Pooh, the book I used to read all the time as a kid. They have a cute little Winnie tag and bees on one leg with an embroidery of the silly old Pooh bear floating away on a balloon. Yes I look like an over grown six year old but whatever. You can only wear dungarees a few times in your life and I'm calling mine now.

Technically I didn't buy these at the vintage fair, I found them at a charity shop the day before, these fab mom jeans are a bit tighter and more tailored than the last pair I bought, they're also really long so I'm going to have to roll them up a bit. They were only £2 so it would be criminal to let them go and waste away in the charity shops, I doubt anyone in my town would want to buy them.

I have some slightly more fun stuff lined up for the next post rather than just a post of pictures of my pale chubby stomach and the proof that I'm not really good at saving money.

An abundance of analouge

For a slight change in programming I thought I'd show the sudden boom in numbers of my camera collection, previously I only had my DSLR (which I take most of the photos for here on) and a teeny little digital camera I use on holiday when I don't want to worry about my big camera. This changed a few months ago when I began looking for an old second hand camera I could start shooting film with, about the same time I started to get interested in the works of Petra Collins and other artists who use film. Incidentally I watched a really interesting documentary about Vivian Maler, a nanny in New York who took hundreds and thousands of reels of film which were recently found in a locker.

I posted ages back about a simple point and shoot camera that I had bought at the car boot sale, unfortunately the internal battery died just after I bought three rolls of film. I found a couple more at the charity shop but none of those worked so I kind of gave up, every so often I'd punish myself with a look on etsy at all the beautiful vintage cameras they have but that ended my quest.

And, like most things in life, once I stopped looking for a camera I found one almost instantly.

This camera was found in the carboot sale from a guy who worked in Russia and was selling lots of cameras and binoculars, which promoted the question 'Are you a spy?' from my mum. It's cool because its a non battery powered camera so I only need to put some film in and then I'm ready to go. I still haven't done any shooting with it as I didnt really understand how to use it until a few days ago but I'll go into further detail a little later.

My parents bought this Polaroid camera for me while I was at Reading from the car boot, I don't have huge hope for this camera, a quick google told me that the film needed isn't produced anymore although there is a chance a different kind would fit, I also had a look inside and found that someone had left the batteries inside and they had leaked, which left a chalky gunk inside, I'm gonna take it into the camera shop and see if they can do anything with it. If it does work it will be a little miracle, I've wanted a Polaroid camera forever, since I was a little kid in fact, I liked the idea of having an instant copy of the image in your hand.

I forgot that I did post about this camera until after I'd uploaded it, it's a beauty, a digital film camera that my grandpa gave to me, claiming that 'my christmas present for the next few years was sorted'. I really want to shoot some fashion images with this one, once I figure out how to use it.

Last but by no means least, the newest addition to my little collection, a gorgeous little Pentax that a neighbor kindly gave to me, he didn't want to sell it because he didnt think he'd get a lot of money for it and thought it would have a better home with me. It was so kind and I cant wait to get properly shooting with it, I'm pretty sure he left the reel of film inside so I've been shooting random stuff, seeing how to work the camera and how to produce the best results until the film is finished.

He was also kind enough to give me a camera bag and some more lenses to play around with, one that has a super zoom and a wide lense that is good for landscapes. It's kind of fun to have so much to play around with, I really hope the photo's I've taken were a good quality, or even an alright quality. The nicest thing he did was give me a mini lesson in how to use them, it was fantastic to understand the aperture and the speed I need to think about when taking photos.

Once I get shooting I'll try and post some of the photos up here, hopefully my plan to scan in the pictures will work otherwise I can easily just take photos with my DSLR which works well but feels a little meta.

Blue jeans. New jeans.

If you've read this blog before you'll know my quest to find a pair of high waisted jeans, I thought I'd found 'my' pair when I bought a pair of 90's men's jeans from the charity shop but I got bored of the length and sliced them into a pair of very comfortable shorts that I plan to distress and shred in the future. That was my last try at finding a pair until yesterday when I went round the charity shops looking for vintage magazines to use in collages, I spotted a National Geographic in one a few weeks ago but after going to seven out of the eight charity shops we have in my teeny tiny town, even the weird smelling and completely unorganized one next to the chip shop that I never go in, and I couldn't find anything that I liked so I just went general charity shopping.
I found a John Lennon T-shirt for my brother as his birthday is coming up and some record singles as every charity shop seemed to have new ones put out that day, I buy records even though I dont have a record player as one of my friends has one and we play them when we go round to her house. They're also a lot cheaper, like 25p, and they tend to have slightly cooler singles, I found Adam Ant's Prince Charming in a bargain bucket next to Max Boyce's Live lp, and while I love Boyce I'm not spending £1.50 on him.

Sorry Max

But my favourite purchase, and the first thing I got, was this gorgeous pair of 90's mom jeans.

They are beautiful and I was so surprised I found them, in a shop I have a track record of finding nothing I like in apart from sewing patterns. It's stone wash denim in this beautiful blue and not only are they gorgeous but they fit really well, if a little loose, and after I put them on a hot wash I'll wear them in a bit with some good ol' butt exercises.

Not only are they gorgeous but they're brand new too, the tages were the original GAP labels and were still attached which was kinda weird. This means the jeans were probably never worn which is sad because they are a beautiful pair of jeans but it does mean I have a 'new' new pair of jeans for the first time in about four years.
It also backs up my argument for people who say charity shop clothes are dirty or smell bad just because they're second hand. Just think about all the times you try on clothes in a store and don't buy them afterwards, its not like they wash them before slinging them back on the rails, in fact its probably better at most charity shops as they tend to wash or steam clean the clothes before putting them out. Unlike a certain shop that I wont mention that had a shirt with a large foundation stain on the front that they left out on display.
Any way I'm super excited for my new jeans, now I have so many more outfit possibilities, and I'm just waiting for the rain to let up so I can Photograph them somewhere outside of my gloomy bedroom.

Go for broke buy shopping exclusively second hand

So I'm preparing for the summer, not by getting my body beach ready, although I did do a wall sit while taking my makeup off which takes like five minutes minimum, no I am preparing for the next few months in which I will be completely broke.
With birthdays, meals out, camping, the summer ball and days away, including Reading I'm trying to regulate my spending so I'm not completely broke by July.

But as retail therapy helps de-stress and motivate me, which is something I need desperately during this revision period, I've been getting my consumerist fixes by shopping secondhand almost exclusively. It's not too hard as I'm a born charity shopper and I live in a town that has a charity shop for almost every charity you can think of.

I went to the local car boot sale this morning to get out of the house and it was a little bit rubbish overall, all the good regular stalls hadn't turned up and it must have been the first proper sale of the season because everyone was there and it got really busy but on the plus side everything was super cheap and I got some good stuff even if the fruit boys hadn't turned up.

A cute vintage postcard from California I think
A cute little stamp from the postcard
Seriously I may actually be a stamp collector
I'm collecting these photo's not only because they look
cute but so I can stitch through them as little art diys.
With the approaching summer comes jeans shorts
Rather than buy women's jeans that fit me and stuff I thought
I'd just buy some men's jeans and pretend they're meant for
me.
This was more of a hair update, it's now butt level and has
developed a bit of a curl at the ends which doesn't usually
happen
I do plan to take them in at some point, and I'm defiantly
ripping or shredding as they look too clean

And now for my favourite purchase today. A film camera! I've been wanting a film camera for ages and have been looking online but the prices are way expensive. I was even thinking of buying from the charity shop in town, they got in a load of old cameras as a donation and I was thinking of treating myself when this beauty waltz into my life. Or rather it sat in a bucket of old cameras my mum pointed to. I was distracted by the old 90's video camera for a second but then I spotted the camera wouldn't part with it.

I asked the guy manning the stall if it was working but he seemed a little clueless but nice and he only charged me 50p for it and gave me a free bag so it was a win win!
I've spent my revision breaks researching the camera and my mum is a wiz at old cameras and we bought film and everything so I'll be set to take fancy artsy pictures!

Look at this beauty,  I still have to find a name for him.
Yes. It is a boy camera.
So that's it for my second hand haul, I guess that's what this is, and I'm kinda proud that I've managed to be a little cleverer with my money and consumerist ways.

Now I have to go to sleep because I started this at 7 o'clock Sunday and finished it literally first thing Monday morning.
